The place is really amazing. It's a highway that cuts through the smokey mountains in N. Carolina.

I drove solo through these last year february on my way to visit a relative.

It was more than a few hundred miles out of the way, but sooooo worth it.

There is an indian village(Seminole) at the base with streams cutting all through it, and overlooks every 4 miles or so on the road itself. I used my old DSLRcamera and managed to take a way to many pics. (not those posted : ) )
I was hanging off ledges like some ghetto-ass photographer.

While I was at one popular overlook some photographer pulled up, hopped out his car with tripod and $$$camera. He preceded to scale 30ft up a 50 degree face behind the overlook. He found a comfy spot to sit, plopped down his tripod, and began taking pictures.

And I thought I was doing something...pfft.

I was there during winter(still beautiful). I am dying to go back during fall time, when it looks like the photo directly above.

Yewa is the Orisha of the Cemetary, Virginity/Chastity and Strictness.

She, similar to Obba, is one of the lesser orishas.

Little knowledge of her was contained through the diaspora.

Her main story can be found below however.

Yewa's sanctity and Eshu's mischief.

Yewa was tending the garden and the mischievous Eshu waswatching her from outside of the gate. Eshu who knew all, knew that she was thelast and only virgin in the kingdom of Olofi. One day Eshu was with Shangohaving some drinks and they began to converse and make jokes.

Eshu listening toShango bragging about how he has had every female in the kingdom of Olofi, laughed. Shango asked him why was he laughing and Eshu told himthat there was one female that was the last virgin of the land. Shangotold Eshu to take him immediately to where this female is. Eshu took Shango toOlofi's castle, and they both sat hidden by the gate and watched the beautifulYewa tend to the garden. Shango jumped the gate looking both ways to make sureOlofi was nowhere to be seen. Shango called Yewa and she did not dare to lookat him due to the fact that she was prohibited to look at any man. After Shango'stemptation Yewa slowly gazed upon him and was in a trance. Shango took Yewa andthey both made love.

Months passed by and Yewa found out that she was pregnantdue to morning sickness and the growth of her stomach that contained a life. Shewas embarrassed and shameful of what her father would say. Yewa sat on a rockand reached deep into her womb and grabbed out the fetus in which she buriednear the castle.

Olofi called Yewa to the garden after some months where hewas asking her about the beautiful flowers in the garden. Yewa told her fatherof the new growth of flowers and the ones that died and shrivel up and that shehad to rip out of the land to give life to the new ones. Olofi looked at Yewaand asked her what did she do with all of the old flowers that she threw out. She told him that she threw them away. Olofi who knows all, asked her what didshe do with the flower that was blooming inside of her.

Yewa shocked, brokedown and cried to Olofi to forgive her. She told him how she was wrapped up inhow Shango looked and seduced her with his eyes. After being ashamed of lettingher father down, Yewa requested that he send her somewhere that she can neverlook at another man. Olofi heart broken granted her wish and sent her to thecemetery to live with her sisters Oya and Obba.

There Olofi told Yewa that since she did not want to look atthe eyes of another man, she will be the Orisha that will consume the body oncethey are in the ground. Since a cadaver begins to rot and the eyes are nothingbut a socket, Yewa starts to consume the body to give it back to the earth.There Yewa lives and tends to the gardens of the dead.

Obba is one of the three in Los Mueretas. (Keepers of the dead)
She is an Orisha of rivers, motherhood, and the home.

Her Story is actually kind of f**cked up.

She was the first and rightful wife of Shango (The Orisha of lightning, music, Strategy, Male Bravado)

Then another female Orisha named Oshun came along and messed things up for her. Shango fell in love with Oshun and took her in as another one of his wives. Soon, Oshun became the center of attention in the household.

Obba became worried wondering what she was doing wrong to loss her husbands attention. She made the mistake of going to Oshun herself and asked her what she did to make Shango fall so in love with her. Oshun however was actually jealous of Obba for being the rightful first wife of Shango.

Oshun told Obba the lie that she cut off a piece of her ear and put it in his soup to eat. After Shango ate it he was helplessly drawn to her. Obba was so longing for her husband's attention that she cut off her entire ear and cooked it into a soup for Shango.

She served the soup to him hoping for a change in his demeanor. When this change didn't manifest she was distraught and came to him begging. Shango, confused, noticed that she was missing one ear. He asked her what happened which led to her confession of her cooking her own ear into his soup to win back his favor. Shango became repulsed and ending up abandoning her completely.

The simple story illustrates the need to be weary of bad council.

First of all, thanks to all the great emails and comments I receive from people who enjoy my post on the Orishas since I started. I definatly want to keep it up.

I'm having trouble deciding which Orisha to move on to next. ???
It will definitely be a feminine energy as I did 3 masculine orishas already.(gotta keep good balance)
